THE GRACE PLACE:
September of 2018 will mark the opening of the Grace Place Soup Kitchen. CMM is partnering with area faith groups, agencies and organizations to help provide food and volunteers for this effort.
The program was created through a generous donation by the Catholic Charities of the Charlotte Diocese. Graham United is designed to help meet the needs of our disabled and/or elderly population. Services include assistance with utilities, heating fuel, medical and medicinal needs, and essential life needs such as food and shelter. Applications for assistance can be downloaded from this site or picked up on location and are accepted during regular business hours.
GREATER GOOD COMMUNITY GARDEN:
In 2017 CMM purchased .52 acre lot to use as a community garden. The garden will be ADA handicap accessible and will be used to help break the cycle of poverty and food insecurity in Graham County. GGCG will provide a beautiful and safe social gathering place and will be used as a learning laboratory and teaching facility for area residents and visitors.
CMM provides lunch for 30 students monthly. These students are chosen on a rotating basis by the lunchroom staff and teachers who are intimately aware of the existing needs and their validity. Each month 10 students from each of the schools are provided a lunch meal who would otherwise not have anything to eat.
BACKPACK SNACK PROGRAM:
CMM helps offset the personal expense to our local elementary and middle school teachers by helping to provide funds to purchase non-perishable snack items which the teachers keep on hand for the many students who are hungry.
THE KNIGHT'S PANTRY:
This program provides food items to high school students in need. Packages of non-perishable food are made available to students to carry home over the weekend. These items are prepackaged and/or microwaveable to help offset food insecurity of our local families. Many high school students are responsible for providing food for their siblings.
THE GOOD SAMARITAN FUND:
This program is provided by Robbinsville United Methodist Church. Non-perishable food and hygiene items are packaged and made available to persons who are experiencing a crisis situation. CMM partners with RUMC in providing the packages to the residents of Graham County and transients.
CMM offers monthly support to the Panther Creek Food Pantry, which is operated by Panther Creek Baptist Church. This pantry is 100% community supported; they do not receive assistance from MANNA or other national feeding programs. PCFP has a monthly distribution, but they partner with CMM to help provide emergency food items for families in crisis.
CMM provides a variety of benevolence on a as needed basis. We have offered assistance for burial expense, shelter, emergency foo, transportation, and in the form of clothing, furniture and household needs. CMM is dedicated to meeting as many needs as possible through as may methods as possible..
CMM has a long history of treating the symptoms of poverty and food insecurity, but we are striving to find ways to address the root causes in order to break the cycle. In an effort to do so, CMM is partnering with others within our community to create an economic and community development plan. We want to be able to offer sustainable employment to those who are willing to work. When people are allowed to be productive it changes their whole life outlook. If you have a new and creative idea, or know of some way that we can be of greater assistance to the people of Graham County please contact us. When needs speak, we listen?
